I'm borrowing from Donna and Billy Hires, who will be our pastoral mentors on the field. (Talk about a fantasic couple! We're blessed to be paired with them.) Donna posted this on her Facebook after the ceremony, and it's perfect.
Matthew 28: 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Isaiah 6:8-11 describes a conversation that Isaiah overhears in which God is asking, "Whom then shall I send? Whom will go?" and Isaiah answers, "Here I am, Lord, send me." Here we are, Lord...ready to be sent in your name.
Our departure date is scheduled for August 4. We are excited, and nervous. We have 6 weeks to do 4 motorcycle rallies, pack our house up, and get everything into storage or sold. We're selling most everything, except personal items that mean a lot to us. What we can't sell, we'll give to Goodwill. The Lord has put it upon us that we aren't to make a fortune on anything we sell, just get rid of it somehow. Someone will benefit from what we have to get out of the house, I'm sure.
Our funding is the issue that we request prayer for at this time. We are at approximately 30% monthly funding, and MV says we must be at 90% before we can leave. The plane tickets are purchased, so now it's a case of trusting God to open people's minds and hearts to support our mission.
I know that "running a mission house" doesn't sound very important, but it truly is. We will be there to provide hospitality and support to all mission teams that come in. That means that we'll see 10-12 teams in our first year, and each will stay 7-10 days. We will maintain the house and vehicles, ensure that all the teams need will be there, and feed them. Yes, feed them. Sometimes there will only be a few people, other times there could be more than 20! With Bill and I managing the mission house, our directors Randy and Brenda Purcell will have more time to do their calling, which is supervise 18 (yes, eighteen) feeding centers, over 50 pastoral couples, host pastors' conferences and support meetings, and run a Bible College. That's more than a lot...it's an overwhelming burden, and Randy and Brenda handle it with grace each day.
Please, consider partnering with us as we move to Guatemala. We're following God's call, and His Great Commission. Pray that the doors are opened, and people step up to further the spread of the Gospel.
God Bless Y'all!!
Lisa
